Dr. Elizabeth Dettmer, Ph.D., C.Psych.

I am a Toronto based Clinical and Health Psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing therapy to children, adolescents and adults as well as training to Healthcare Professionals.

I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Georgia and my Clinical Health Psychology training, internship, and postdoctoral fellowship, through the University of Miami and the Boston Consortium in the United States. I went on to serve as the director of a Health Psychology service for a large adult hospital for five years before moving to Toronto in 2006 to work at the Hospital for Sick Children.

At SickKids, I am an Assistant Professor in the Division of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto, a Project Investigator with the Sickkids Research Institute, and the Mental Health lead of the SickKids Team Obesity Management Program, a clinic devoted to the treatment of children, adolescents, and families living with severe obesity.

I am experienced in several different therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Positive Psychology, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).  I have also been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and have a wealth of experience in providing Motivational Interviewing training to healthcare providers.
